THE HISTORY OF SUN AND SHIELD
On February 9,
1986, Pastor Gary Hall from Madisonville, Kentucky met at the
Continental Inn with eighteen other people for the first service of the
Sun and Shield Baptist Church. After moving to several locations and
laying a solid foundation, Brother Hall returned to Kentucky to pastor
in December 1987. The next summer Brother Steven Morris, an assistant
pastor at Bible Baptist Tabernacle in Monroe, North Carolina was called
by a unanimous vote to Sun and Shield to become our pastor.
After their arrival, the Lord again began to add to Sun
and Shield (Psalm 126:1.) We desperately needed our own building. That
need was supplied five months later when the pastor of a small,
struggling, Independent Baptist work in Marana phoned. He was looking
for a separated, KJV church of like faith and practice to GIVE their
facilities. After several meetings and much prayer and fasting, Sun and
Shield Baptist Church moved to its present location.

God has truly blessed as other buildings were built on
the property and the ministry continues to expand. In July 2000, a Youth
and Bus Pastor was added to the church staff.
Please pray for us as we grow spiritually and
numerically. We find ourselves in need of even larger facilities and plans are
currently under way to build a new larger auditorium.
